Isle of Man Airport is located 7 miles southwest of Douglas, the island capital, in Ronaldsway, close to the town of Ballasalla. It is the main airport serving the Isle of Man and provides an important air link to the UK mainland. The airport has been gradually redeveloped and extended over the last ten years; current work is expected to finish at the end of 2009. The airport served just over 750,000 passengers in 2007, which, though not officially part of the United Kingdom, made it the 26th busiest airport in the UK that year. Airlines serving the airport offer flights from the Isle of Man to destinations in the UK, Channel Islands and Republic of Ireland.
The airport is the main base for Manx2; an airline currently offering scheduled flights from the Isle of Man to destinations such as Belfast, Blackpool, East Midlands, Gloucester and Leeds/Bradford. Flybe has a large presence here and runs services from the Isle of Man to destinations including Birmingham, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newquay and Southampton. Flybe routes operated by Loganair also serve Edinburgh and Glasgow. Blue Islands is a Jersey based airline that offers scheduled flights between the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey. Aer Arann, Eastern Airways and VLM Airlines are the other airlines currently serving the Isle of Man.
