Leeds Bradford International Airport is the largest airport in Yorkshire. It is located close to the town of Yeadon, 7 miles northwest of Leeds city centre and 6 miles northwest of Bradford city centre. The airport handled close to 2.9 million passengers in 2008, making it the 16th busiest airport in the UK that year. Passenger numbers have increased considerably here over the last 15 years, due, in part, to the lifting of restrictions on opening hours, and the subsequent arrival of no-frill, low-cost airlines. The airport is served mainly by scheduled and charter airlines that offer flights from Leeds Bradford International Airport to popular holiday and city break destinations across Europe. About a dozen domestic routes operate at the airport as well as a handful of services to North Africa and South Asia, but the majority of flights passing through the airport are short haul international flights to the continent.
The airline Jet2.com is based at the airport and has been operating scheduled flights from Leeds Bradford since 2003. Destinations served by Jet2.com include Alicante, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Belfast, Chambery, Dusseldorf, Ibiza, Krakow, Milan, Nice, Paris, Prague, Sharm el-Sheikh, Toulouse and Venice. Other scheduled airlines currently offering flights from Leeds Bradford International Airport are bmi, Flybe, KLM, Ryanair and Pakistan International Airlines. Small airlines such as Air Southwest, Eastern Airways and Manx2 operate here and offer flights to domestic destinations such as Aberdeen, Newquay, Plymouth and the Isle of Man. Jet2.com has previously offered flights to New York Newark Airport but isn’t operating this route at present.
Thomas Cook Airlines is the charter airline with the biggest presence at the airport. Destinations on offer are generally holiday hotspots around the Mediterranean or in the Canary Islands such as Fuerteventura, Ibiza, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, Tenrife and Zakynthos. Jet2.com also provides charter flights; destinations currently offered are Chambery and Kiruna. Air Europa, BH Air, Onur Air and Thomsonfly are some of the other charter airlines operating from Leeds Bradford Airport.
There are regular bus services running between the terminal building and nearby destinations such as Leeds, Bradford and Harrowgate, so getting to and from the airport won’t be a problem. Full travel details are available on the airport website.
