London Stansted Airport handled over 23.5 million passengers in 2007, making it the 3rd busiest airport in the UK that year. Only London Heathrow and London Gatwick handled more. The airport is located in the county of Essex, about 30 miles northeast of Central London, and is one of the five international airports serving the capital.  Passenger numbers grew here considerably between 1997 and 2007 with the rise in popularity of budget air travel. Although it is 30 miles north of Central London, London Stansted Airport is well connected to the capital.
