Manchester Airport is the UK’s busiest airport outside of the London area, and is by far the largest airport in the northwest of England. It is located in Greater Manchester, 8.5 miles southwest of Manchester city centre. Manchester Airport served just over 22 million passengers in 2007, making it the 4th busiest airport in the United Kingdom. It has two runways, three passenger terminals and a freight terminal. Manchester Airport offers more routes than any other airport in the UK. In total, there are over 80 airlines at the airport offering flights to over 225 destinations worldwide. The airport has always been popular with charter airlines, for many years the majority of Manchester’s overseas routes were operated by such airlines flying to and from seasonal holiday destinations. Recent years have seen a rise in popularity of scheduled services; scheduled flights from Manchester now account for around 65% of passenger activity.

Manchester Airport currently offers scheduled and charter flights to domestic and international destinations across Europe, Africa, North America, the Caribbean, Middle East and South Asia.

If you can’t find flights to Manchester Airport, then Liverpool is the closest alternative. Leeds/Bradford and Blackpool are also airports worth considering.
