Scheduled flights to domestic and European destinations account for the bulk of passenger traffic at Newcastle Airport. The airport introduced its first long-haul scheduled flight in September 2007, with Emirates beginning a direct daily service to Dubai. Charter airlines offering flights from Newcastle to destinations across Europe, North Africa and North America are popular at the airport during the holiday season.
