Norwich International Airport is located 3 miles north of Norwich city centre. It handled close to 0.7 million passengers in 2007, making it the 29th busiest airport in the UK that year. The airport offers scheduled and charter flights from Norwich to destinations across the UK and Europe. Aside from commercial air activities, Norwich Airport is an important hub for charter helicopters serving North Sea gas installations. The airport has long had an air link with Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, a major international air hub in the Netherlands. There are currently four flights a day from Norwich International Airport to Amsterdam, making it more convenient for some to fly to Schiphol to catch a long-haul international flight then make the journey to London Heathrow or London Gatwick.

Flybe has a considerable presence at the airport; it offers scheduled flights from Norwich to Edinburgh, Exeter, Jersey, Manchester, Chambery, Geneva. Eastern Airways, bmi and KLM are the other scheduled airlines at the Norwich; they currently provide services to Aberdeen, Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Thomson Airways is the biggest charter airline here and currently offers seasonal charter flights from Norwich International Airport to Corfu, Ibiza, Mahon and Palma de Mallorca. Other charter services are provided by Air Europa, Air Malta and Eurocypria Airlines.

Whether you are travelling to or from the airport, you find that the journey between the terminal and city centre is relatively straightforward. The airports close proximity to central Norwich means that taking a taxi won’t cost the earth; journey time is around 20 minutes. Regular bus services run daily between the airport and city. More information can be found on the airport website.

As it is the sole international airport serving Norfolk and Suffolk, if you can’t find flights to Norwich International Airport, you will have to travel a bit further to find an alternative. The closest alternative airports are London Stansted, London Luton and East Midlands.
